New Chief Executive

07/06/2008

Carole Heatly, currently the Chief Executive of Kingston Hospital NHS Trust, has been appointed Chief Executive of North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and will take up her new post in October.

Carole replaces Marie Burnham who left the Trust in June to take up a new post as Chief Executive of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Carole has been Chief Executive at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust since October 2003. Under her five-year stewardship, she has taken the Trust from strength to strength with increased numbers of patients choosing the services at the Kingston-upon-Thames hospital, shorter waiting times and reduced hospital infection rates. New services have been developed and patients are now receiving treatment in brand new facilities including a new surgical centre and a newly opened cancer centre.

Kingston Hospitals NHS Trust is also at the advanced stages of preparation for becoming a Foundation Trust.

Before joining Kingston, Carole was Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategic Development at Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust.

She started her career in the NHS over 25 years ago, qualifying as a Registered General Nurse and then as a Sick Children’s Nurse in Edinburgh. She spent most of her clinical career working in Accident & Emergency services in Glasgow before moving into hospital management in 1990.

Mike Little, Chairman of North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “I am delighted Carole will be joining our Trust as Chief Executive.

“Carole has a proven track record as a Chief Executive and will bring a wealth of experience to the role. Her enormous commitment and drive will be essential as our own Trust continues to build on its success and moves forward to becoming an NHS Foundation Trust. A strong, skilled and experienced Chief Executive is vital to this success.”
Carole said: “I am very much looking forward to taking on this exciting and challenging new role in North Cumbria. It will also mean I will be a bit closer to my roots in Scotland!

“The Trust’s staff have worked extremely hard over recent times providing high quality patient services during a time of unprecedented demand and change. We do have important challenges ahead, including becoming a Foundation Trust and managing our resources well and effectively.

“I am confident that, with the help of our staff, we will continue to provide high quality hospital services for the people of North Cumbria.”
